I feel like I learned a little bit more about myself as a writer through this first project. This writing project was a little different then most of the writing projects that I did in high school in the fact that we were required to turn in multiple different drafts. In high school I would write one draft and then kind of edit it a little bit and that was what I turned in. Most of the time I would skate by with a solid B and I was pretty alright with that. This project made me realize the importance of writing multiple drafts. I wrote my first draft for this project and it really lived up to the name of my shitty first draft. If that had been the draft that I just edited a little and turned in, I cannot even imagine what I would have gotten as the final grade. I do kind of wish that I had come to the conclusion that writing multiple rough drafts before turning in a final draft before I had to write my first essay for another class. For that essay I did what I USED to do and just wrote one draft and edited it a little bit and ended up getting a high B, which I am kind of okay with, but I know that if I had written at least one rough draft I most likely could have gotten a high A. While I did learn about myself as a writer during this project, I also learned some important things through the process of writing a rhetorical genre analysis.
One of the things that I learned was that there are genres of rhetoric in everything. In high school I feel like I was taught that there was only rhetoric in writing, or I wasn’t paying attention when we learned about it in other things, there is a high possibility of that. But after writing this essay I noticed myself pointing out different rhetorical genres in my everyday life. My friends all thought I was kind of weird but like eh… who cares? I think that this first writing project definitely prepared me more for the second project. Now I know what to expect when writing my second paper and once the first essay is graded, I will know what Ms. A expects in my second draft as well.
