I feel like through this second project I have learned a lot about research and writing an argumentative research paper. I learned a lot about the FSU library system and how to affectively research a specific topic. I think this project also helped me to become more creative with what I look up in the research database. For my research paper I wrote about the surf culture in Hawaii and how it started and how it has evolved over time. I found out through the FSU library database that there are not a whole lot of scholarly peer reviewed articles on this topic. I had to think outside of the box and really dig into articles that were there in order to find all the sources that were required. I also think that I learned how to conduct an interview efficiently and effectively. I had the opportunity to interview professional surfer, Tamayo Perry, and I was super stoked about it, but also very nervous. I have looked up to Tamayo my entire life and even had a poster of him on my wall in my room growing up. I think that because he was such a social and personable person who was easy to talk to and a great person to interview for my first interview that it really boosted my confidence, I guess you could say, in interviewing other. I think now because of this it will be a lot easier to interview other people in the future. I think that to be a good researcher you do have to be creative and think outside the box a little in order to find the articles and research materials that you need. I think that I will need to use these research strategies for many things in school and out of school. I think that in school this will help me in future classes when I am writing other research papers or doing research for my classes. I also think that this will help me outside of school in my adult life in many ways. For example when I am buying a car this will help me because I will be able the car that I want and then the normal price that that car is sold for so that when I go to the dealership to actually purchase the car I will Know if I am getting a good deal or not. I can also use this research in my adult life when applying for a job. I can look up the potential company that I am thinking about working for or the potential bosses that I might have. Some good old fashioned cyber stalking!
